In mechanical engineering, pins refer to simple machine elements that connect workpieces to each other. Pins therefore enable a fit between two components. They are therefore also called dowel pins. They exist in various designs, such as cylindrical pins, tapered pins, dowel pins or grooved pins. There are also mixed forms. Pins are used to positively connect workpieces to each other. The pin is inserted or driven into a hole that passes through all parts. When a pin is pressed into a hole, an interference fit is produced. Different pins are suitable for different applications and demands on the connection of the parts: cylindrical pins are generally used for connections that hardly ever or never need to be loosened.... Taper pins, on the other hand, are well suited for frequent disassembly and assembly. Grooved pins hold vibration-resistant even in very smooth bores, even when reused. Dowel pins are particularly easy to drive in and also reuse well.
