According to the standards for form and position tolerances, the position tolerance is a location tolerance. The position of a bore center, for example, is considered to be toleranced if it lies in a square whose center coincides with the specified bore. The position tolerance defines points, straight lines, axes and planes. Especially for hole patterns, the position tolerance is irreplaceable. As with all shape and position tolerances, its entry in technical drawings is regulated by standardized symbols. By using precisely shaped gauges, the position tolerance can be checked very well during production. The position tolerance can also be used as a reference system for alignment during measuring operations.
